No Peace Without Justice mourns the passing of former ICC Judge Hans-Peter Kaul

 
No Peace Without Justice mourns with great sadness the passing of Hans-Peter Kaul, former Judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC) where he served for 11 years. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends, and to his many colleagues and friends around the world.
 
Hans-Peter Kaul was a critical contributor to the establishment and development of the ICC, both as head of the German delegation during the negotiation process which led to the adoption of the Rome Statute, as well as a member of the ICC’s Pre-Trial Division. He contributed to important decisions rendered in the situations and cases before the Court, in particular regarding Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Darfur (Sudan), the Central African Republic, Kenya, Libya and Cote d’Ivoire. He also dedicated his tireless efforts in advancing the support for the amendments to the Rome Statute on the crime of aggression.
 
Human Rights and International criminal justice have lost a true friend and advocate. We mourn Hans-Peter Kaul 's passing and urge all who knew him and whose lives he touched to carry on his legacy.
