A delegation of No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) headed by Marco Pannella, President of the Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty, will take part to the Sixth Forum for the Future Ministerial Meeting, to be hosted on 2-3 November 2009 in Marrakech, Morocco, under the co-presidency of Morocco and Italy. The meeting will see the participation of high-level government delegations and prominent civil society representatives from G8 and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries, as well as regional and international organizations and institutions, with the aim to examine the state of play of progress accomplished in the realm of political reforms and human rights promotion in the Region as well as prospects for co-operation between civil society governments on these issues.
The Ministerial meeting discussions will also be informed by the recommendations emerged from the three workshops organized in Beirut (Lebanon), Rabat (Morocco) and Doha (Qatar) by NPWJ in cooperation with local partners (the Lebanese Organization for Civil Activities (OPAC), the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights (OMDH), the Arab Democracy Foundation (ADF) and the Qatari National Human Rights Commission).
The workshops were part of a series of initiatives organised in preparation for the 2009 Forum for the Future, in coordination with the Democracy Assistance Dialogue (DAD) partnership, aimed at promoting productive dialogue on a peer-to-peer basis between civil society and governments of the bMENA Region, G8 and other democratic partners, on issues relating to human development and human Security, economic and political reforms in countries of the region.
These meetings provided a setting for concrete exchanges between high-level governmental and non-governmental actors from the Region aiming at the development of proposals and goals that can be jointly agreed upon by them. In that sense, the workshops held in Rabat, Beirut and Doha represent a concrete implementation of the guiding principles for stronger dialogue and cooperation between Governments and civil society contained in the “Partnership document”, which has been acknowledged by the fifth Forum of the Future held in Abu Dhabi in October 2008.
