Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy, 9 June 2014
On Monday 9 June 2014, Greta Barbone, Senior Associate of the International Criminal Justice Program, gave a lecture to International Relations students of Università degli Studi di Milano on The International Criminal Court and Transitional Justice: a civil society perspective.

The hour and a half lecture was an opportunity to discuss the current challenges that the Court is facing, including its difficult relationship with the African Union following the trials against the Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto. Ms Barbone also focused on the 12th Assembly of States Parties and NPWJ political work around it as well as the most recent ICC decision confirming that the case against Saif al Islam Gaddafi is admissible and will continue in The Hague.

A substantial part of the lecture was dedicated to transitional justice, using the Project on Supporting the Democratic Transition in Tunisia through Transitional Justice as an example of NPWJ field work and methodology. The lecture was interactive and the Italian and foreign students present enriched the discussions asking questions and making comments on various issues, including the immunities of Head of States.
