14th ASP to the ICC: NPWJ contributes to side event “Enhancing the Court’s impact on the ground: A strategic approach to ICC field presences and external operations”

In the framework of the 14th session of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) of the International Criminal Court (ICC) held in The Hague, No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) contributed to the side event “Enhancing the Court’s impact on the ground: A strategic approach to ICC field presences and external operations”, organised by the ICC Registry on 23 November 2015 (from 13:15 to 14:45, World Forum).

The panel was moderated by Anniken Ramberg Krutnes, Ambassador of Norway in The Hague. Panelists included Luzolo Bambi Lessa, Special Adviser to the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo; Harriet Solloway, Chief of Legal Affairs, MINUSCA; Greta Barbone, Senior Associate, No Peace Without Justice. Opening remarks were made by Herman von Hebel, Registrar of the ICC.

The discussion highlighted the importance of field operations for the ICC, including victims participation, outreach, security, witness and victim protection, among other. Panelists and contributors welcomed the ICC’s registry’s move to strengthen its field presence, and called on state authorities, UN missions, international organisations, NGOs to assist.
