“All that glitters is not gold”. Child Victims of Proxy Wars in the Middle East

19 Nov, 2019 | Comunicati Stampa

European Parliament, Room A5G1, Brussels

Hosted by Ilhan Kyuchyuk MEP

On the eve of the 30th Anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child, we are witnessing an unprecedented use of violence against civilians in the Arab world that disproportionately affects children. This is mostly due to the conflicts financed by external regional powers that propagate and exacerbate harmful social and political environments at home and abroad. In countries like Yemen, extreme poverty caused by policies of starvation as a weapon of war has an immediate impact on children’s lives. In Libya, the war between armed militias prevents many children from going to school and exposes them to heightened risk of recruitment and trafficking.
