“Towards the Libyan Ratification of the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture”

Tunisia, 13-14 December 2021

No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ), in collaboration with the National Council for Public Freedoms and Human Rights-Libya, the Libyan Bar Association, DIGNITY, the National Mechanism on the prevention of Torture-Tunisia and the Human Rights, Rule of Law and Transitional Justice/UNSMIL, is organizing a workshop on « Towards the Libyan Ratification of the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture » to be held in Tunis on 13-14 December 2021.

The aim of the Workshop is to identify key challenges and opportunities for ratification and implementation of the OPCAT in Libya, with a view to developing a road map and plan of action for such ratification and implementation.

Experiences of Tunisia, Palestine, Morocco, Denmark and France will be presented by representatives of their national prevention mechanisms. The event will be attended by high level representatives of concerned ministries and entities, including the High Judiciary Council and Parliament, with the CSOs participation.

The workshop is part of a comprehensive program implemented by NPWJ with the financial support of the European Union, aiming at strengthening the capacity of Libyan government institutions and civil society organizations to cooperate with international human rights mechanisms and use them to promote Human Rights in Libya.
