Justice Rapid Response: new group of 14 deployable experts certified strengthens JRR’s operational capabilities

The third Justice Rapid Response Certification Workshop, organised by No Peace Without Justice (NPWJ) and the Institute for International Criminal Investigations in cooperation with the Netherlands Forensic Institute, concluded today in The Hague, with a new group of 14 deployable experts being certified to the JRR Roster.

Speaking from The Hague, Alison Smith (International Criminal Justice Program Coordinator of No Peace Without Justice) said that the Certification workshop had two major outcomes: first, an additional 14 experts in criminal justice and related professions have now been certified to the JRR Roster. With the increase in deployable experts to 80 and the diversification of expertise available, particularly in forensic expertise, JRR is steadily expanding the potential situations in which JRR experts could be deployed to respond rapidly to investigation requests on alleged humanitarian law and human rights violations.

Second, participants uniformly expressed the benefits the training would bring for their work at home. The contribution of the training course to increasing capacity, including for civilian deployment, demonstrates the multiple benefits of participation in JRR.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the participants and organisers expressed their thanks to the Netherlands Forensic Institute for hosting the event, to the Government of the Netherlands for its support and to the Governments of Canada, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands and Switerland for providing the financial support that made the workshop possible.
