On Thursday 23 December 2010, at6 pm, at the headquarters of the Transnational Nonviolent Radical Party (Via di Torre Argentina 76, 3rd floor, Rome), No Peace Without Justice(NPWJ) and Radicali Italiani are organising apublic meeting with Khady Koita, Senegalese human rights activist and author of the book “Mutilata” (Cairo Editore), who will be in Rome to receive the Rome Prize for Peace and Humanitarian Action, as a symbol of the struggle of African women against female genital mutilation (FGM).
The eventwill be an opportunity to take stock of Italy’s efforts to present a resolution against female genital mutilation at the United Nations General Assembly and to discuss the obstacles encountered so far, examine the different positions taken at the UN and to retrace the significant steps of tenyears of campaign by No Peace Without Justice for the ban on FGM.
Participants will also include Emma Bonino (Vice President of the Italian Senate), Mario Staderini (Secretary-General of Radicali Italiani), Niccolo FigaTalamanca (Secretary-General o fNPWJ) and Alvilda Jablonko (Coordinator of NPWJ’s FGM Program).
