On 14 October 2014, Hands off Cain (HoC) and the Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational and Transparty (NRPTT), in partnership with MEP Louis Michel, are convening a meeting at the European Parliament, in Brussels, to present the English version of the “2014 Report on The Death Penalty Worldwide”.
The presentation will see the participation of: Mrs Frédérique Ries, MEP (ALDE Group), Mr Marco Pannella, former MEP and President of the NRPTT, Mr Valentin Djenontin – Agossou, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Benin, Mr William Spencer, Executive Director of the Institute for International Law and Human Rights (IILHR), and Ms Elisabetta Zamparutti, Treasurer of Hands off Cain. During the event will also be broadcasted a video-message by H.E. Boni Yayi, President of the Republic of Benin and recipient of “The Abolitionist of the Year 2014” Award, in recognition of his engagement to abolish the death penalty in Benin as well as in international fora.
Hands off Cain’s 2014 Report, edited by Reality Book, accounts of the most important facts regarding the practice of the death penalty in 2013 and the first six months of 2014. During the event, Hands off Cain will also present the objectives of its ongoing campaign for the abolition and the moratorium on the use of the death penalty in Africa, as well as the proposals to strengthen the new Resolution on the Universal Moratorium, which will be voted by the UN General Assembly in December 2014.
On 14 October 2014, at 6 pm, a meeting with Elisabetta Zamparutti, Treasurer of Hands off Cain, will also be hosted in the Office of No Peace Without Justice (address: 54 rue du Pépin, B-1000 Brussels).
